Fenn goes in search of away win at first attempt

UCD vs Longford Town Preview - By Andrew Dempsey (@AndrewDempsey2)

Longford Town will aim to extend their five game unbeaten run as they meet UCD at the UCD Bowl on Friday night, kick off at 7.45 pm.

Neale Fenn got his first win as new Town boss with a late Daniel O'Reilly winner over Cabinteely. “The Red and Black” will surely be keen to gain some sort of revenge over “College” as the Dublin side have come out victorious on both clashes between the clubs so far this season.

Longford will have to do without Mark Langtry who is sidelined with a knee injury. It is hoped that Davy O'Sullivan will play some part as he is still recovering from a recent groin issue.

“The Students” injury list has started to grow for Collie O'Neills charges in recent weeks, with Gary O’Neill, Simon Power and Gareth Coughlan all set to miss out through injury. Greg Sloggett is a doubt with an ankle injury and will face a late fitness test ahead of the game. In spite of this, he is expected to be able to play.

This game is a clash between the two “cleanest” sides in the First Division and  the game will be officiated by Sean Grant and his team of Brian Fenlon, David Berry as linesmen and Adriano Reale as 4th Official.

“De Town” will surely fancy their chances against “The Students”, with the capital club recently losing at home to “Shels” 2-1 accompanied by UCD’s mounting injury crisis. Town will also be buoyed by the fact that they have not been beaten since the 19th of May when Waterford beat the Midlanders, scoring victories over Cobh Ramblers, Wexford Youths and Cabinteely in recent weeks.

Recent omens don't look great for Longford with “De Town” having no competitive victories over UCD since 2007, however this game will provide Town supporters with good memories with this being the game when Dave Mooney sent “De Town” into the FAI Cup Final in 2007 at the RDS.

If Longford were to win this game, they would close the gap on UCD in the First Division to five points. On the other hand, were “De Town” to lose they could potentially fall back from 4th place to 6th place.

Prediction: UCD 1 Longford Town 2
