Finn Harps fans have been given a major gift before Christmas with the news that star man Paddy McCourt and the experienced Gareth Harkin have both re-signed ahead of the 2018 season.

Despite a bitterly disappointing relegation last term, former Celtic star McCourt lit up the dreary surroundings of Finn Park with a series of dazzling displays and eye-catching goals for the County Donegal side. Having trained with Dundalk prior to joining Ollie Horgan’s Harps last season, interest was expected to be high for the marquee signature of McCourt following relegation. However, the ‘‘ Derry Dynamo’’ as he is famously known will now be looking to secure an instant return to the Premier Division for 2019.

As for Harkin, the twenty-nine-year offers a wealth of experience having enjoyed spells with Fanad United, Limavady and Coleraine in the past. Signing for the Ballybofey based club in 2011, Harkin in fact departed Harps at the end of that season prior to returning under the watch of Ollie Horgan in 2014 as Harps gained promotion via the play-offs.

With an extended play-off system in operation for next seasons new look ten team First Division, Harps fans will be hoping with the long-term future of lovable boss Horgan secured and now the addition of fan favourites McCourt and Harkin to the 2018 panel that similar feats may yet lie ahead.
