2018 First Division champions, UCD AFC have been dealt with a hammer blow on this storm struck Saturday morning after star midfield, Greg Sloggett was officially unveiled as a Derry City player. H

aving played a major role in the “Students” historic title success last season, twenty-two-year-old Sloggett was one of the key clogs in Collie O’Neill’s midfield machine but will now take instructions from the recently appointed Declan Devine from next season.

Playing twenty of UCD’s twenty-six league matches last term, Sloggett formed an impressive partnership with fellow “Students” star, Gary O’Neill as the pair not only pushed the College to title success but also a final four appearance in the FAI cup, before eventually bowing out to double winners Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Despite having only ever represented UCD at League of Ireland level, the youngster does have some top-flight experience after breaking into Aaron Callaghan’s 2014 senior side, who were sadly relegated under the former Bohemians managers watch.

With just five days until the release of next seasons league fixtures, UCD boss Collie O’Neill may very well spend his Christmas reviewing his midfield options ahead of the “Students” return to the top-flight in 2019. O’Neill, who works for Microsoft by day, has continually stated he will not look outside of the clubs current scholarship program in terms of signing players for next season. is proudly sponsored by
