Only one of the two planned First Division games survived the latest icy blast from the East as Wexford FC’s clash with UCD fell foul to the weather, whilst Cabinteely overcame a brave but ultimately unsuccessful Athlone Town at the Athlone Town stadium.

Athlone Town 1-2 Cabinteely FC

With questions being posed to the Athlone Town hierarchy regarding their involvement in League of Ireland football, Athlone Town's players and coaching staff certainly did not embarrass themselves, as they were on the receiving end of a 2-1 home defeat to Pat Devlin’s Cabinteely side.

With an apparent goalkeeping crisis which saw midfielder Luke Kelly have to deputise in goal, it was expected that the Town would be on the receiving end of a hiding at the hands of Kieran "Marty" Waters and co. However, That never materialised and Aaron Callaghan’s side certainly did themselves justice against a side that will be expecting to challenge for Playoff spots at the very least.

Conor Keeley put "Cabo" in front just after the start of the second half, but Pat Devlin’s side were soon pegged back thanks to a Jake O’Connor strike just after the hour mark. However, Athlone Town’s parity was not going to last long as Joe Doyle spared Cabinteely’s blushes at the Athlone Town Stadium.

The result sees Cabinteely pick up their first points of the season whilst Aaron Callaghan’s Athlone town remain rooted to the bottom of the pile in the First Division.
