Buckley admits fortune after Dalymount win

Despite extending their uneaten run to seven games on Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park, Sligo Rovers manager Liam Buckley admitted his side were fortunate to come away with the three points in a game overshadowed by serious injuries to Bohemians Dinny Corcoran and Sligo defender, Dante Leverock.

Reduced to ten men in the second-half when captain, Derek Pender received his marching orders, Bohemians could have been forgiven for sitting in and settling for a share of the spoils on a difficult night for everyone involved but Keith Long’s side instead pushed on for a winner and created more than enough opportunities to claim an unlikely triumph. However, failure to convert those chances combined with an openness at the back allowed Sligo Rovers to perform a bit of a smash and grab on the “Gypsies”, as Romeo Parkes sunk the home side to send Liam Buckley’s charges home with a big win on the road.

After the game, Sligo boss Liam Buckley admitted he was left scratching his head slightly as to how his team had come out on the right side of the result.

“In fairness to Bohs, even with ten men they passed the ball well and created a couple of chances in the second-half but with that said we bagged a couple of goals through Romeo Parkes, two excellent finishes and we are delighted to leave here with the three points” remarked Buckley as he spoke to Gerard Browne for episode 9 of Between the Stripes TV’s LOI review show on YouTube.

Offering an update on his injured defender, Buckley revealed Dante Leverock had been sent to hospital for a check up, following a serious clash of heads in the first-half, and the medical team would know more about his condition off the back of that. With a trip to Oriel Park up next for the inform “Bit O’Red”, Buckley will be desperate to have the services of the Bermudan international at his disposal.
